When William Wallace Jamieson returns home from a night out with friends he finds a note from his pregnant wife, Hazel, threatening suicide by jumping in the river. Automatically assuming the worst, William Wallace calls to one of his friends for help in searching for her. As Virgil and William Wallace scour the river, they solicit help from other male adults and children of their town.
As they search for Hazel, they catch fish that they eventually sell. William Wallace starts to mull over his relationship and realizes that the final straw may have been him having a drunken night out with friends. Once he's finally returned home and finds his wife safe, he wastes no time in making her promise to never pull a stunt like that again.
